The Indian Revival Group is presenting, The Rising, A multi media presentation unfolding the saga  of Indiaís struggle for freedom

through dance, drama & film


The rising of a nation, one of the biggest mass movements contemporary society has ever seen, arousing millions of people of all classes & ideologies. The extraordinary tale of the making of a nation that inspired similar struggles in many countries of Asia and Africa.


A tribute to the forgotten heroes, the invincible people of India, the fearless leaders & the legend Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi who lived to free India or die in the attempt armed with the moral might of Satyagraha & Ahimsa. It is a tribute to the nation.


Indian Revival Group is a multi faceted dance company & one of the foremost dance ensembles of the country, which completes 60 years of unbroken chain of existence since its inception in 1948. Founded by Shri Yog Sunder, a product of Tagore's Shantiniketan & Gandhian ideologies & a distinguished choreographer who ranks amongst the pioneers, the Group has crossed significant milestones in its career of 6 decades. IRG has performed 5000 shows & conducted 250 tours through the length & the breadth of the country. The Group has taken art to the masses, performing for army Jawans in remote border areas, prisoners in jails, industrial workers, farmers in interiors & students. The Group has represented the country many times abroad as an official cultural delegation & had the honour of performing at the first command performance for the first Prime Minister & President of India at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in 1957. IRG has produced many productions of high artistic merit designed by great masters. Yog Sunder has been selected for the Sangeet Natak Akademi Puruskar for 2008. The Group is currently led by Papiha Desai, a versatile dancer & choreographer with an impressive body of choreographic work.
